O2 P.O. is a medical oxygen therapy device, which allows mouth breathers to use supplemental oxygen, effectively. There are many oxygen therapy patients, that breath through their mouths, including those that have a restriction in their nasal airway due to pathology, allergy or surgical procedures. Other patients may have a psychological predisposition to mouth breath. Additionally, patients may have an altered state of consciousness, including normal sleeping or cognitive impairment, resulting in mouth breathing. See Casaburi

O2 P.O. is designed in two versions. One version can be easily held in the mouth, as needed, by conscious users. They may, for instance, remove the device to speak or eat. The other version incorporates a retaining lip flange and strap that stabilizes the device for use during sleep or when the patient isn't able to retain the device in their mouth, as noted above.

O2 P.O. utilizes a molded mouth piece, which contains a booster venturi. This feature amplifies the vacuum signal, which is produced during inhalation in order to activate a pulse type oxygen regulator, while allowing for a large air passageway, commensurate with oral inspiration. Additionally, a silicone restrictor flap further boosts the vacuum signal, during slight inhalations, to allow the pulse regulator to activate. During a large inhalation/exhalation, the flap bends and opens the air passageway to minimize restriction. When continuous O2 is available, the booster venturi and flap can be eliminated, as shown in the last picture above
